In addition to outlining the skills needed for success in the world beyond our classrooms, the MURSD Portrait of a Learner provides an opportunity to celebrate the range of talents, curiosities, explorations, and accomplishments of our students. In the spirit of this new driving force in our schools, Nipmuc has established the Portrait of a Learner Scholars Program. Through this opportunity, Nipmuc has created digital profiles for a cohort of students in order to share their unique stories of learning.

Our initial class of scholars includes 32 students across all grade levels. Like all 650 students at our school, these students completed a reflection on their learning following the January 2019 Inspired Learning Day. During the February 2019 Lead Learner Workshop, a group of educators and students participated in a blind process to review our students' reflections. Through this anonymous process, they identified 32 students whose reflections told powerful stories of learning and growth.

These students then had the chance to participate in a full-day workshop during which they created their digital profiles, shared their stories through the lens of the Portrait of a Learner, and found creative ways to highlight their powerful moments of learning. The result provided our school and district not only with a personification of the Portrait of a Learner in action but also a new way to capture the success of our students beyond test scores, report cards, and traditional metrics.

We hope you enjoy this chance to meet the Nipmuc Regional High School Portrait of a Learner Scholars!
